Restore a More Defined, Youthful Neckline

The neck may begin to show signs of aging earlier than the face. Whether your neck appears full or your jawline lacks definition, a deep neck lift in Scottsdale can sculpt and refine the contours of the neck to achieve a dramatic improvement and take years off your appearance.

What is a deep neck lift?

A deep neck lift is a surgical procedure that firms, sculpts and refines the contours of the neck. During a deep neck lift, the layers of the neck are lifted to achieve smooth definition, including the skin, muscle, fat, glands, and connective tissue. The effect is an attractive, refined neck and jawline.

What is the difference between a deep neck lift and neck liposuction?

Deep Neck Lift

What does it address?

A deep neck lift addresses the contours of the neck, including the skin, muscle, fat, connective tissue, and glands to sculpt the neckline and jawline.

How long does it last?

A deep neck lift will last between 10 to 15 years. The neck skin, muscle, and fat layers will continue to age naturally after recovery is complete.

What is the recovery time?

Most patients can return to sedentary work within 7-14 days and to exercise within about 1 month.

Risk of complications

Deep neck lift surgery carries risks, as with any surgery, including infection, bleeding, and scarring. Complication rates are directly related to your surgeon's experience and expertise.

Neck Liposuction

What does it address?

Neck liposuction addresses pockets of fat on the neck and the jawline.

How long does it last?

The results of a deep neck lift are permanent. After recovery is totally complete, the neck skin, muscle, and fat layers will then continue to age naturally.

What is the recovery time?

Most patients can return to sedentary work within about 1 week and to exercise within about 3 weeks.

Risk of complications

The risks of neck liposuction are the same as those of a deep neck lift. The rate of complications is directly related to your surgeon's expertise and experience.

Who is a candidate for a deep neck lift?

Because a deep neck lift is designed to lift neck contours but doesn’t address loose, droopy skin, this procedure is best suited for younger patients under 40 with a genetically heavy neck. Patients over 40 with loose, sagging skin are the best candidates for a deep plane facelift, performed in combination with a deep neck lift. Ideal candidates for a deep neck lift should meet the following requirements:

  • Are in good physical health
  • Have no serious medical concerns
  • Do not smoke
  • Have lost definition in the jawline
  • Have a thicker or heavier neck contour
  • Have realistic expectations about what a deep neck lift procedure can achieve

What happens during the deep neck lift procedure?

Dr. Starkman will have a thoughtful consultation with you to understand your aesthetic goals, examine your skin and neck, review your surgical and medical history, and explain the procedure in detail.

Your procedure will be performed under general IV anesthesia. Dr. Starkman will make a single 1-inch incision hidden beneath the chin rather than traditional facelift incisions placed around the ears.

Using this incision, he will lift the layers of the neck (skin, muscle, fat, glands, connective tissues) to sculpt a refined, elegant neckline and jawline. Dr. Starkman will remove both superficial and deep fat on the neck and under the chin and lift and tighten the neck muscles.

Your deep neck lift procedure will take about an hour of surgical time.

Recovery after a deep neck lift in Scottsdale:

Expect approximately 7-14 days of downtime after your deep neck lift. During this time, you’ll rest and recuperate as your body heals. Expect bruising and swelling, which you can treat with over-the-counter medication. Sleep with your head elevated, and do not lift anything heavy or exert yourself as you’re healing.

Final results will take about 4-6 months. At that point, you will be able to exercise rigorously. Your scar, well hidden in the lines under the chin, will fade over a period of six months to a year.

FAQs

What makes a deep neck lift more advanced than other neck procedures?

Deep neck lift allows Dr. Starkman to sculpt the neck at multiple anatomical levels, not just the surface, which creates greater definition, more refined contouring, and longer-lasting improvement.

Will I still need a facelift if I get a deep neck lift?

Not always. Some patients only need a deep neck lift, while others may benefit from combining deep neck lift with a facelift depending on skin laxity and facial aging.

Is a deep neck lift more effective than neck liposuction alone?

For many of our patients, yes. While neck liposuction removes fat, a deep neck lift also addresses deeper tissues, muscles, and contour irregularities for a more sculpted result.

How noticeable are deep neck lift scars after healing?

Surgical scars are typically very discreet and strategically hidden beneath the chin, where they tend to fade significantly over time.
